Community Foundations Learning Circle
July 13th, 12pm-1pm MT

Topic: Managing Committees

Presenter: Marvelous Baker from The Cleveland Foundation

Facilitators: Marilu Guzman from the California Community Foundation and Sylvia Spivey from The Philadelphia Community Foundation

Description: Join us for a discussion of best practices in managing committees. Marvelous Baker from The Cleveland Foundation will present her research findings on this topic. Please let us know if you'd be willing to share your foundation's approach to managing committees to get the discussion started.

Learn whether your foundation is using its scholarship selection committees to their best advantage. Are there more efficient and effective options for using scholarship selection volunteers; or staff making scholarship recommendations? Let’s compare some of the most often used techniques, with ideas for upgrading our selection committee processes. A sampling of the fifteen largest community foundations which administer scholarships was performed. Let’s explore those findings; examine trends that can optimize the time and talent of our scholarship selection volunteers; and question how to be “smart,” yet compassionate, as we engage persons in the decision-making process.
